Buhari supports Amnesty for Boko Haram

Former Head of State and Presidential Candidate of the Congress of Progressive Change, (CPC), Alhaji Mohammed Buhari yesterday supported the call by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad and others that the dreaded Boko Haram be granted amnesty. Buhari, spoke in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital after a courtesy visit to the state Governor, Ibikunle Amosun. The CPC leader had earlier in the day visited the matriarch of the Awolowo, Mrs. Hannah Idowu Awolowo, over the death of her son, Oluwole. According to him, it was a good thing that the Federal Government had set up a committee on the issue. His words: “It is good that they have set up a committee, although I have not seen the terms of reference. This is not the first time that amnesty is given to violent group.” He recalled what happened during the Yar’Adua and the militants, stressing, “whatever will bring us peace as a society, we should do it.” While commiserating with the Awolowos, Buhari described the death of the Publisher of the Tribune as a huge loss not to the family, but the entire country. He was accompanied during the visit by former speaker, Alhaji Aminu Masari, Prince Tony Momoh and his running mate during the last general election, Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly. Meanwhile, the presidential lodge where the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa received him was turned a political campaign ground with members of the CPC besieging the premises. Addressing the supporters, Buhari said he appreciated them and promised never to disappoint them.
