AmansIa HORROR!
By VINCENT KALU
Almost two weeks after, people of Amansia community in Awka North Local Government, Anambra State are yet to come to terms with the gory spectacle that confronted them right in their homestead. And by the magnitude of its sordidness, they are most likely never going to overcome the horror effect. The community had woken up that fateful morning to behold 30 dead bodies floating in their river, Ezu River.
A driver told Saturday Sun that he was going to Oji from Awka when he saw a crowd by the river, most of the people looking obviously horrified. Some of them, he said, had their hands on their heads; some wrapped theirs across their chests, while others were in different postures of agitation. “Out of curiosity, I parked my bus even with the passengers and we all got to the scene.
I have never seen such cruelty in my 60 years of existence. The dead bodies were at various stages of decomposition, few that looked fresh had broken legs and hands.” As at the time of writing this report, no one, not even the police, could as much as speculate where the corpses came from or what might have caused the death of the people. Police detachment that visited the scene that morning was just as confounded. And to add to the mystery, there were no gunshot marks or cuts on their bodies.
It was speculated that given the degree of decay, the dead bodies could have been dumped in the river three or four days before they floated. Two men, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the rumour making the rounds in the community, suggested that the state’s anti-robbery squad at Awkuzu could have dumped the corpses. They ruled out the issue of ritual, as all body parts were intact.
