The 'White Widow' behind the Kenyan mall massacre was in Nigeria

According to a report by UK Daily Mirror, Samantha Lewthwaite, the British woman known as the “White Widow” accused of masterminding the Kenyan shopping mall massacre that left 68 people dead and over 170 injured was in Nigeria sometime ago and evaded detection.
If White Widow Samantha Lewthwaite is on the run she will be hard to catch. If  Lewthwaite were to be on the run in Kenya, Nigeria or Somalia, it would be a easier to evade detection than in Europe. She would be wearing a veil, and sensitivities about searching Muslim women would be observed so she could easily slip through difficult checkpoints.
In Nigeria, where police forces are notoriously corrupt, there were reports she was almost caught a while ago, but she bribed her way out of trouble. Extremist communities such as al-Shabaab are tight-knit in these countries, making it difficult to recruit agents to penetrate them and trace her.
And Lewthwaite may hold a great deal of power as a special kind of jihadist, having proved her worth in previous attacks. As a white convert mum and widow of a 7/7 bomber, she would be invaluable propaganda and would command huge loyalty. Also, the austere nature of her adopted culture means she would rarely go out, so there would be few opportunities to follow her. Bounties have failed to nail jihadists as money has no value to individuals loyal to the cause.

Let God Be The Judge Between Me And Kollington Ayinla- Queen Salawa Abeni

After 23years of living separately from the father of three of her children, Queen Salawa Abeni has said, God should be the judge of whatever bad Kollington Ayinla has done to her. She made the statement recently at the Annual London African Music Festival.

In her words “Even though Kollington and I have gone our separate ways 23 years ago, I still consider him a big part of my life because I bore him children who bear his name. His name will forever be written in the history of my life. Though we do not have a smooth relationship, and I have been solely responsible for the upbringing of my children up to university level, I still maintain the fact that he is part of me. Let God be the judge of whatever bad Kollington has done me.”

She is gradually bouncing back to the music industry after years of taking a break due to a throat ailment. She also said she is thankful to God because she did not believe she could get a cleaning job, not to talk of becoming a celebrity due to her poor educational background.

Sambo Takes Over Negotiation With ASUU

BY JAIYEOLA ANDREWS AND DAMILOLA OYEDELE
The Vice-President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, Thursday took over the negotiation with the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), in a move to end the lingering strike by the union.
The new development was the outcome of the deliberations between Sambo and ASUU’s delegation held behind closed doors in the State House for about two hours last night.
At the end of the meeting between the vice-president and representatives of ASUU, the contending parties refused to reveal details of the discussions, hence leaving journalists to guess if the meeting was fruitful or not.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, ASUU president, Nasir Isa Fagge, noted that the union needed to discuss their meeting with their members and get back to the government
Asked to assure Nigerians on early resolution of the crisis, Fagge insisted that as a good messenger, he would only report back to the larger ASUU body. He also refused to divulge the details of government’s fresh offer.
Also speaking, supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, assured Nigerians that students would soon return to school as government was ready to make sure all the contending issues are resolved as soon as possible.
Others in the meeting include former ASUU presidents, Dr. Dipo Fasina and Dr. Abdullahi Sule-Kano.
Also in attendance were the Vice-Chancellors of Bayero University Kano (BUK), University of Ibadan (UI) and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, Profs. Abdulrasheed Abubakar, Isaac Adewole and Muhammed Hamisu Muhammed. The Excutive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie was also at the meeting.
Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam’s committee had been in charge of the negotiations since the beginning of the strike about three months ago with ASUU. Meanwhile, the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities (CPC) has appealed to ASUU to end the strike and return to the classrooms.
The committee, composed by Chairman of Governing Councils, said the government had shown commitment to the causes pursued by the union by sourcing funds for the disbursement of N130 billion for infrastructure and payment of earned allowances of the lecturers.
In a communique issued at the end of its meeting in Abuja to deliberate on the lingering strike, the CPC said it had received the assurances of President Goodluck Jonathan to provide the balance of the shortfall of the earned allowances if any, only after due verification by councils on those entitled to the allowances.

Pastor Impregnates 3 Choir Members, Uses Fetish Powers

A self-acclaimed man of God who runs a church in Ugbolu community, near Asaba, Delta State, has allegedly put three female members of his choir in the family way.
The man, identified as Moses (surname withheld), was alsoaccused of using fetish practices to conduct prayer sessions during worship periods in the community where he is said to also perform miracles.
Reports said Moses, who is now helping the police in its investigations, was alleged to have hood-winked the victims into having closed doors prayer sessions where he was said to have performed various acts on them.
The police spokesperson in the state, ASP Lucky Uyabeme, said that the suspect, upon interrogation, confessed to have lured his victims with “charms,” claiming that this paved the way for him to have sexual intercourse with them.
Sources said since revelations relating to the Moses’ bizarre acts two weeks ago, there have been palpable tension in the community where worshippers in his church have been seen standing and whispering.
It was gathered that Moses moved into the community from Onitsha where he was allegedly manhandled by a mob after raping a 16-year-old bread hawker.
Moses was arrested after relations of his victims were said to have reported the matter to the Police, following the confessions of the young girls that he had made love to them.

I'm 35yrs But No Man To Marry Me; I'm Tired ––Lady Cries Out

She needs help very fast as age is no longer on her side and no husband yet. Below is her story:
"I am 35 years old and even though seeing other peoples wedding bring joy to my heart, I have gotten to that stage in life where I know now for sure this will never happen for me
I have been hoping for many years, and it’s not that I don’t have suitors, I am far from unattractive, but I just can’t find that guy. No one is perfect I know this, but there are certain things I am looking for in a life partner I haven’t found yet.
I believe in being friends above everything else, the shared ideals (religious, life etc) and then a connection. The physical isn’t of great importance, but the men I am meeting these days I can’t even have a connection with and trust me I have tried. I have been in relationships in the past, but it’s always that I gave too little or I gave too much. I am tired it shouldn’t be this hard.

I have all but given up but I want to have kids desperately, but I don’t want to be a single mom (nothing against single mothers), my mom and grand mother were single mothers and I felt their struggle I wouldn’t want to go through that. I guess I am the one with the problem

I am tired of hoping, praying, and wishing. I have come to accept this more than likely won’t happen for me, I see a lot of single girls are going through the same struggle, and it seems hopeless. I want to be married, to a man I love, a man with whom I can grow with."

SYRIA: To Destroy Our Chemical Weapons We Need One Year And One Billion Dollars - Assad

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said he supports the idea to destroy his country's chemical weapons arsenal but warned it could take about a year and would required $1 billion.
The Syria disarmament plan was revealed by the US and Russia last weekend. The West insists that the deal should be enshrined in a UN resolution backed by the threat of military force, but Russia objects.
Speaking to Fox News, Assad said the liquidation of Syria's chemical weapons would be "a very complicated operation, technically. "And it needs a lot of money, some estimates (say) about a billion." He added that this could take more than a year.
When asked if he would agree to hand over chemical weapons to the US, President Assad said:
"It needs about one billion. It is very detrimental to the environment. If the American administration is ready to pay this money and take the responsibility of bringing toxic materials to the United States, why don't they do it?"
Assad again kept denying claims that his forces were responsible for a deadly gas attack near Damascus on 21 August.
Also yesterday, Russian diplomats stated yesterday that UN's report on a poison gas attack in Syria, that Western nations said proved President Bashar al-Assad's forces were responsible, was biased and politicized. They said they would present evidence, provided to them by Assad, that rebels were behind the attack.
Meanwhile, fierce fighting has been reported between two rebel groups in the north of Syria. Activists said the fighting began when jihadists from the al-Qaeda-linked group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), and fighters from the Western-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) clashed in the town of Azaz, near the Turkish border. This is believed to be one of the biggest confrontations so far between the jihadists and the FSA.

Man, 22 Rapes 12-Year-Old Girl In The Bush

The police have arrested a 22-year-old man, Imoleayo Adekoya, for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in a bush in Sagamu, Ogun State. The police said the suspect, who lives at Ado Street, off Hospital Road in Sagamu, was arrested on Sunday, a day after he committed the offence. The Police Public Relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement that the victim was sent on errand to a nearby market when Adekoya allegedly raped her. Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, added that the suspect allegedly first lured his victim into the bush before committing the offence. He further said that when the victim did not return home on time, a search party was constituted to look for her. The police spokesman said, “The helpless girl was seen with blood all over her when a search party came across her at late hours of Saturday. “The suspect has been arrested and confessed to the crime. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran Abeokuta, for a thorough investigation. The suspect will appear in court soon. “The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Ikemefuna Okoye, has assured the parents of the victim and the people of Ogun State of justice in the matter. He warns those who are fond of raping women, particularly minors, to stop as the command will no longer tolerate such obnoxious act.”

The Dirty Details of Monalisa Chinda and Nzeribe's Failed Affair

It was Tuesday August 27 and another lifeless day filled with uncertainties, inconsistencies and a shameful lack of direction at Monalisa, the white elephant magazine misadventure of Lanre Nzeribe and Monalisa Chinda. Lisa had suddenly gone AWOL for close to a month from her ceremonial publisher’s seat, staff being owed 2 months’ salary and Lanre was stalling. He rarely showed up in the office and whenever he did, he barely spoke with anyone before he would zoom off again in his black Maserati. Outside, he was always conscious to give off a deceptive public image: The hip ‘big boy’ and perfect gentleman to camouflage his real insensitive, aloof and condescending sides. Back to the farce at 19 Ademola Adetokunbo Street, Victoria Island (Chase Mall). After their publicised breakup, there were whispers Lisa had reconciled with Lanre and was coming back to her ceremonial seat. The ‘news’ cheered up some of the junior staff. It wasn’t surprising because to some degree, she was the life of the party in the company with her chirpy, free-spirited, girl-next-door, almost simpleton nature. Some of the workers wanted to buy coloured cardboard and decorative materials and another one got external speakers from outside the office. The driver had angrily left the company two weeks earlier because he said Lanre paid him N25, 000 as salary instead of N40, 000 they had agreed, so I offered to drive them to the store. While waiting at the park of the megastore, I glanced at my wristwatch. It was 3pm. The ‘party’ was ready, but no word yet from the ‘red carpet’ guest. I decided to call her.

Palm fruit processors decry scarcity of materials

Mr Ojo Molade, Chairman, Fadama Community Association (FCA) in Ijagba, Ondo State, has decried the scarcity of palm fruits used in producing palm oil. Molade said on Wednesday at Ijagba in Ondo State that the scarcity had made the palm oil business dull in the area. The association’s palm oil processing unit was among the Fadama III project sites visited by the Fadama III technical assistance team to the state. The Fadama III project was conceived by the World Bank and the Federal Government as a follow up to Fadama I and II. The implementation period of Fadama III is five years spanning from 2008 to 2013. The objective of the project is to reduce poverty and increase food security as well as empower users of land and water resources to generate more income. Molade explained that before now, oil palm producers took their products to processing shed, adding that scarcity of the raw materials had made them stay back. “We use to produce two drums of palm oil on a daily basis here, but now the business is dull and it has really affected our income. “The state government and Fadama have come to our aid before now by giving us the loan facility to acquire the equipment to process palm oil. “He noted that the cost of production dropped with the new equipment.’’ According to Molade, the association use burnt waste from the kernel for making black soap. He called on governments at all levels to help restore steady power supply to the town, adding that it would go a long way in boosting production. (NAN)

Majek Fashek signs new deal

So much has been said about Majekodunmi Fashekun, aka Majek Fashek, especially his self-propelled plunge from glory to ruin. But there is an indication that he might be on his way back to reckoning soon, courtesy of A-Plus Entertainment, a record company. The CEO of the outfit, Hajia Oluremi Dangali, thinks now is the time to bring the reggae star back to the limelight. “What he needs is rehabilitation and a strong pillar of support, not hisses or rejection. We cannot close our eyes and fold our arms and watch him waste away all that musical talent just because some people have chosen to label him a fading star. No. At A-Plus, we care and recognise a living legend when we see one and Majek Fashek still has so much in him to contribute to uplift Nigerian music and the entertainment world in general,” she says. To prove that the company means business, A-Plus has handed a two-year recording, promotion and management contract with the musician. The deal is said to be valued at several millions of naira. Part of it includes a proposed tour of Italy, Spain, Canada and the USA.

Pop artistes with new stage names

The wind of change has at last caught up with raves of the moment, Sauce Kid and Wizkid. A few months ago, Babalola Fagbeni discarded the pseudonym ‘Sauce Kid’ for ‘Sinzu SMG’ because he felt too mature to be addressed as a ‘kid.’ The initials SMG stand for ‘Something Must Garner.’ The new stage name was promptly made to reflect on all his new works. Similarly, Ayo Balogun, aka Wizkid, now wants to be known as simply ‘Wiz.’ “I am no longer a kid. At 23, I am now a grown-up man with responsibilities,” he says. Sauce Kid and Wizkid The artistes are following in the footsteps of Nigga Raw. About three years ago, the Igbo rapper, who delivers his rhymes in thickly accented English, set the pace by changing his alias to ‘Raw.’

HIV prevention pill, Truvada, backed by US experts

A panel of US health experts has for the first time backed a drug to prevent HIV infection in healthy people. The panel recommended US regulators approve the daily pill, Truvada, for use by people considered at high risk of contracting the Aids virus. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is not required to follow the panel’s advice, but it usually does. Some health workers and groups active in the HIV community have opposed the approval of the drug. Truvada is already approved by the FDA for people who are HIV-positive, and is taken along with existing anti-retroviral drugs. The pill Studies from 2010 showed that Truvada, made by California-based Gilead Sciences, reduced the risk of HIV in healthy gay men – and among HIV-negative heterosexual partners of people who are HIV-positive – by between 44 per cent and 73 per cernt. The Antiviral Drugs Advisory Committee, which advises the FDA, voted 19 to 3 in favour of prescribing the drug to the highest risk group – non-infected men who have sex with multiple male partners. They also approved it, by majority votes, for uninfected people with HIV-positive partners and for other groups considered at risk of acquiring HIV through sexual activity. The votes followed an 11-hour meeting of the panel in Silver Spring, Maryland, and a lengthy public comments session. Challenges Opposition to the prospect of approving the drug is based on concerns that users could gain a false sense of security, and fears of a drug-resistant strain of HIV. There is also concern that the high cost of Truvada could divert limited funding from more cost-effective options. “We need to slow down. I care too much about my community not to speak my concerns,” said Joey Terrill, of the Aids Healthcare Foundation, which campaigned against the drug’s approval. Addressing the panel, nurse Karen Haughey said:”Truvada needs to be taken every day, 100 percent of the time, and my experience as a registered nurse tells me that won’t happen. “In my eight years, not one patient that I’ve cared for has been 100 per cent adherent.” But others welcomed the panel’s recommendation. “This brings us closer to a watershed for global HIV prevention efforts,” said Mitchell Warren, executive director of the Aids Vaccine Advocacy Coalition, after the vote. The FDA is expected to make its decision by 15 June.

Gareth Bale down with groin Injury

Gareth Bale, the world’s most expensive player, has gone for a scan after suffering a groin strain in training before Wales lost 2-1 to Macedonia on Friday — meaning he may have to wait for his Real Madrid debut, an unused substitute in the Macedonia defeat, did not play any part because of that injury, Wales manager Chris Coleman said. Coleman said the scan would determine whether Bale would have any involvement against Serbia in Cardiff on Tuesday. “We had a conversation with Gareth before the game — he had a tight groin from the day before and we could not take that chance,” he explained. “As we speak, he has gone to have another scan on it to clear his mind so he knows everything is alright.” Real have been hoping that Bale — who moved to Spain for a reported fee of £86 million — can play in their next league game, against Villarreal on September 14. Cristiano Ronaldo is a fitness doubt for that match. Some reports had indicated that Madrid would ask Wales to leave him out of their qualifiers against Macedonia and Serbia. But Bale had stressed he wanted to play, saying: “I haven’t had a lot of match time so that will help my fitness, as well as it being an honour to play for my country. “It’s well-known I had a slight injury, which took me a bit of time, but I always wanted to be here in the white shirt of Madrid and hopefully I can get match time with Wales and come back fit. I’m hoping to be involved for the game with Villarreal.” But the Welshman said he realised his world record fee was no guarantee of a starting place in the Madrid line-up, adding: “I can’t come in and just walk into the starting 11. I’ve always wanted to improve, and there’s no reason that should stop now I’m here. I can’t wait to get started.”
