Ice Prince Now Ambassador For ‘Rhythm and Play’ For NASCOM

Ice Prince Zamani is now officially the Rhythm and Play ambassador for NASCOM (National Academicals Sports Committee). President Goodluck Jonathan will launch the Rhythm N’ Play initiative in Abuja. The initiative is part of the nationwide grassroots sports & development campaign. “Just got made an ambassador for ‘Rhythm and play’ by NASCOM and will be opening June 5th in abuja and June 14th in London with Nigerias President Goodluck Jonathan, MI, Shalewa(tinsel), Emeka Ike, Sani Danger!” Ice Prince said while announcing the news via instagram. He also mentioned that the album he’s been working on, Fire Of Zamani will be dropping soon.

2face Escapes Death

f I’m wrong, this will be the fourth time 2face will be escaping death. May God continue to protect him. Read the story below, culled from HiphopWorldMagazine. Award winning singer and song writer Tuface Idibia, last Sunday narrowly escaped death while on board an airplane Lagos bound from South Africa. It was a night flight and sources say the singer was listening to music from his iPod when he perceived a foul burning odor. The situation became more serious when the lighting system in the aircraft suddenly went off; and panic set in with some passengers whispering ”This plane is going to crash!”. The captain then announced that the plane had developed an electrical fault and they were going to have an emergency landing. The plane had to turn around and head back to South Africa. 2face was spotted talking and calming his crew down, telling them not to panic. Miraculously, the tires came out and the plane successfully landed and the passengers were evacuated. Thankfully the pop star is doing okay.

Charge Asari-Dokubo with treason – David-West

Former petroleum minister, Prof. Tam David-West has called for the arrest and trial of Mujaheed Asari-Dokubo for treason. The former minister also accused President Goodluck Jonathan of inconsistency in his dealings with issues of insecurity and threats in the country, noting that the same Jonathan threatened former vice president Atiku Abubakar with treason when Atiku declared that those who made peaceful change impossible should prepare for violent change. Asari-Dokubo recently declared that there would be war and Nigeria would break up if Jonathan was not elected for a second term as president. This was just as he equally made similar statement last week that Igbo must be president of Nigeria or there would be no peace. His utterances had been condemned by several Nigerians who insisted he lacked moral standard to threaten the peace and unity of the country. Angered by Dokubo’s utterances on the 2015 elections, David-West said, “no sane and responsible person will make such reckless and irresponsible statement. First, with what he has said about 2015, he has committed treason. And I am surprised that Jonathan is inconsistent. When Atiku said those who make peaceful change impossible should prepare for violence, Jonathan threatened him for treason. “But here is Asari-Dokubo who clearly said if Jonathan does not win election in 2015, Nigeria will break up, there will be war. That is outright treason. He should be charged for treason. “Jonathan should get him arrested and charge him for treason. Jonathan is not president for the Ijaw alone. He should not forget that he wouldn’t have become the president with only the votes from Ijaw. “He got less than 24 percent votes from Ijaw for his election. He is president today because of the massive support from the North so he cannot today be president for Ijaw alone. The contribution of Ijaw to his Presidency was less than 24 percent. So if he wants to be Ijaw president, I am sorry for him,” he stated. On Dokubo’s character, David-West said: “Let me tell you. I have an article coming up on Dokubo in few weeks. I have a detailed document entitled, “The Dymistification of Asari-Dokubo.” It is going to come up in the next few weeks. Dokubo, I know him very well. Our mothers are from the same father. He used to be with me. “I used to give him pocket money. Our then grandmother has different tradition in Kalabari marriage culture. Somebody that once called a nationalist like Chief Obafemi Awolowo a criminal cannot be a sane person. He called Chief Awolowo a criminal. He also went to beg Gani Adams. Anybody that called Chief Awolowo a criminal cannot be a sane person. Boko Haram plans air strike

By OUR CORRESPONDENT More facts have emerged on what led to the bloody clash between Nigeria’s military and the terrorist group, Boko Haram in Baga, Borno State that led to so many deaths two weeks ago. Daily Sun authoritatively gathered from military sources that the terrorists, who had been using Niger Republic as their major base, sneaked into Baga in alarming numbers over some time and were trying to create a major base there preparatory to commencement of a round of deadly attacks in the state and Yobe. But for the timely intervention of the military, the terrorists, who were on the verge of procuring helicopters to add to their arsenal and commence aerial assault, would have destroyed the whole of Maiduguri, Damaturu and surrounding states, sources said. Security sources told Daily Sun that apart from their intention to carry out more deadly attacks on Maiduguri, where they have made their stronghold, the terrorists had planned to launch attacks on commercial aircraft using their helicopter until they were taken unawares by the Nigerian military personnel there on internal security operation. The military sources said they acted on very reliable intelligence from residents who had started noticing suspicious moves and faces in the area. Apart from carrying out attacks in Maiduguri and its environs, the terrorists had also planned to attack other states using the helicopters to prove to the Nigerian military and also the federal government their superiority. Security reports indicated that even though the Joint Multi-National Task Force (JMNTF), which comprised the security operatives of Nigeria, Niger, Chad Cameroon, some other African countries and the other nations had not been so committed in the fight against terrorism as they had displayed lukewarm attitude to the mandate of the task force. Operatives from some of the other nations who don’t feel much of the heat of the Boko Haram attacks were said to be the ones leaking security operations information to the terrorists, with a strong base in neighbouring Niger Republic. As a result, they had access into Nigeria without hindrance and had turned Baga, a border territory with Lake Chad, into their armoury. The terrorists were said to have dumps their ammunitions at the least suspicious places in the town. Daily Sun source noted that Boko Haram had been stockpiling in Baga enough armament to launch violent assault on the nation that they would have sustained for months if they had been spared to hatch their plans. Boko Haram: Amnesty ’ll fail – Oritsejafor

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor yesterday stamped his foot over the proposed amnesty for Boko Haram sect. Oritsejafor told President Goodluck Jonathan not to waste time pandering to the dictates of members of the Islamist sect by granting them amnesty. ‘It will not work,” he warned. Oritsejafor spoke in Abuja after receiving an award of ‘A True Servant of God’, bestowed on him by the Christian Elder Forum of Northern States (NOSCEF). Oritsejafor also canvassed for the building of cattle ranches for Fulani herdsmen instead of roaming major cities across the country. Oritsejafor, who sympathised with victims of Boko Haram insurgency, said the “arrogant and deriding manner with which Boko Haram members dismissed the amnesty deal coupled with the earlier quoted statement by Abu Qaqa have both reinforced our stance that the sect’s only interest is to eliminate Christians and enthrone an Islamist state in Nigeria.” Speaking further, he said: “This is why we are again calling on President Goodluck Jonathan not to waste tax payers’ money on a futile exercise. He should review the amnesty deal for Boko Haram in view of the bravado by the sect leader, Mallam Shekau. “Boko Haram is not only a local terrorist organisation, it has a ring of international connection to it. Do not waste time pampering the sect members because amnesty deal will not work. “Permit me to call on President Jonathan to beware of some Muslim leaders in the North and their very few Christian allies who always go to him in droves to seek regional concessions with religious biases. People who do not see anything wrong in Boko Haram killing Christians but want amnesty for the murderous and bloodthirsty sect members. “Amnesty plan is aimed to divert the attention of reasonable Nigerians and the world from the cruelty of Boko Haram to Christians,” Oritsejafor said.

Italian recession looks set to drag on More gloomy news out of Italy, where industrial output dropped more than expected as the country's near two-year recession drags on. Industrial production dropped (a seasonally adjusted) 0.8% in March, meaning it is 5.2% lower than in the same month last year. Analysts were expecting a 0.2% monthly fall. The Italian economy – which is the third largest in the eurozone – has shrunk for six consecutive quarters, since mid-2011. Another fall in GDP in the first quarter would makeit the longest recession the country has suffered since World War II. That looks likely to happen, as there is a close correlation in Italy between industrial production and GDP.

Former police sergeant jailed after selling information to the Sun

James Bowes also tried to sell story about Katie Price's daughter to the News of the World A former police sergeant has been jailed for 10 months for selling information to the Sun and attempting to sell a story to the now defunct News of the World about the celebrity Katie Price. During sentencing at the Old Bailey on Thursday Mr Justice Fulford told James Bowes, a former Sussex police officer, he had "corroded public confidence in the police force" and abused his position for what were essentially corrupt purposes. Bowes, who worked in Brighton, had pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office last month after admitting contacting the News of the World and the Sun between April and July 2010. The court heard he was paid for just one story, but Fulford said his decision to put private details of incidents into the public domain in relation to two children – Katie Price's daughter Princess Tiana, and a three-year-boy who was bitten by a fox in a Brighton school – was "a particular notable aspect of this offence". The first incident took place in April 2010, when Bowes emailed a story to the Sunday tabloid about Price just after she had separated from her former husband, Peter Andre. The court heard how a child protection team had been asked to intervene after Price and Andre's daughter had been injured. No crime had taken place and the girl's injuries were consistent with those normally associated with childhood, but Bowes had discovered the intervention from checking the police log. He tried to sell the story to the News of the World. The paper had its own sources about Price and Andre's separation and did not pay him. Bowes next contacted the Sun and received £500 for passing on details of a three-year-old boy who had been bitten by a fox at a birthday party at school premises in Brighton. He also passed on the details of the man who had hired the venue for the party. On a third occasion he tipped off the Sun about a search the police were about to make in the home of the convicted serial murderer Peter Tobin, after a clairvoyant phoned investigators to say she had dreamed of more bodies beneath the floor. Bowes was charged by officers from Operation Elveden, the Met's investigation into police corruption. He is the fourth police officer to be convicted of passing information to a newspaper. Bowes had no previous convictions and was dismissed on 14 September 2012, for gross misconduct following his arrest. Mark Bryant Heron, for the Crown, told how Bowes had "panicked" when the clairvoyant, who had contacted the police regarding Tobin, complained that someone had leaked information about her call to the Sun and he then stopped contact with the paper.

In a statement he released last night, in Port Harcourt, he said that police invasion of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area secretariat yesterday was a prelude to the plan to impose emergency rule in the state. He also alleged that Abuja-based politicians in the state are planning to stage a massive protest that could lead to a breakdown of law and order and therefore prompt the Federal Government to declare emergency rule and remove Governor Chibuike Amaechi. The Speaker asked the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to withdraw the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu and investigate his alleged “abuse of power.” The statement reads: “Dear Citizens of Rivers State and Nigeria, on the 30th of April 2013 we did warn of a continuous planned gradual collapse of the security apparatus and dismantling of democratic structures of the state with the intention of preparing for the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. “Today the 3rd of May, 2013, without any security breach or semblance of same, the first stage of the preparation was commenced with the invasion and subsequent sealing-off and besieging of the Obio/Akpor Local Government council secretariat and the clamp down on officers of the council at exactly 2 pm by the Commissioner of Police Rivers State, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, through the instrumentality of the Divisional Police Officer, Rumuokoro Police Divisional Headquarters, while the workers were going about their lawful duties, in total breach of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as Amended) and the Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria. “As at press time, the premises of the council was barricaded by heavily armed and ferocious looking policemen, the workers ordered out of premises and the Chairman and members of Caretaker Committee were locked in, having refused to vacate the premises without any valid instrument of law. “We strongly condemn in strong terms this action by the Commissioner of Police and say that we are living in uncertain times and can no longer be sure of the safety of lives and property in Rivers State. “Consequently, we call on the Inspector General of Police to cause an investigation to be carried out on this brazen abuse of power by the Commissioner of Police Rivers State, Mr. Mbu J. Mbu and redeploy him out of Rivers State, before he plunges this peaceful state into a state of anarchy”.

Venezuelan lawmakers hurt during punch-up in parliament

CARACAS (Reuters) - Fistfights broke out in Venezuela's parliament on Tuesday, injuring a number of legislators during an angry session linked to the South American nation's bitter election dispute. The opposition said seven of its parliamentarians were attacked and hurt when protesting a measure to block them from speaking in the National Assembly over their refusal to recognize President Nicolas Maduro's April 14 vote victory. Government legislators blamed their "fascist" rivals for starting the violence, which illustrated the volatile state of politics in the OPEC nation after the death of late socialist leader Hugo Chavez last month. "We knew the opposition came to provoke violence," Maduro said of the incident. "This must not be repeated." The 50-year-old Maduro, who was Chavez's chosen successor, defeated opposition candidate Henrique Capriles by 1.5 percentage points. Capriles, 40, has refused to recognize his victory, alleging that thousands of irregularities occurred and the vote "stolen."
